I believe that he was trying to say just because you are a basketball player doesn't mean you just labeled as a basketball player a person should be more than that. They should be a good person rather or not a basketball player. I also believe that he knew if all his basketball players were nice to each other that he knew they were going to get somewhere and not most coaches have a mind set life John Wooden. He made his team not only a winning team multiple times but they all had good hearts deep down. John knew that yourself is more important than any label they put on you because if that label wasn't on you people would know you as a person who is nice or mean someone who always does the right thing or someone who always does the wrong thing you as a person make up yourself not anyone else.
